Pulling an article out of a webpage to paste into a README, or turning Markdown release notes into HTML for an email newsletter, both require format conversion that is tedious to do by hand. This tool converts HTML into clean Markdown, or Markdown into HTML, in either direction, letting developers and writers move content between formats without manually rewriting headings, links and lists.

Simple structures like headings, links, lists and basic tables convert cleanly, but deeply nested or heavily styled HTML layouts may lose some visual fidelity since Markdown has a simpler feature set than HTML.

No, it generates semantic HTML elements without any styling, you will need to apply your own CSS if you want the output to match a specific visual design.

Inline styles and custom attributes are generally dropped during conversion, since Markdown does not have an equivalent syntax for arbitrary HTML attributes.

For simple content the round trip is usually close to lossless, but complex formatting like custom classes, multi-column layouts or embedded scripts will not survive the conversion in either direction.

Pro tips
  • ·Expect simple structures like headings, links and lists to convert cleanly, but review deeply nested tables or heavily styled HTML by hand afterward.
  • ·Markdown-to-HTML output has no styling attached, apply your own CSS if you need it to match a specific design.
  • ·Do not expect a lossless round trip for complex content, custom classes, multi-column layouts and embedded scripts do not survive conversion either direction.
