How it works

What happens when you open a file

Every tool here runs in your browser. This is what that means in practice, including the parts that are not obvious.

Your file stays in this tab

Opening a file reads it from your disk into this browser tab. The work runs on your own processor: pdf-lib and pdf.js for PDFs, Tesseract for OCR, libarchive for RAR and 7z, and the browser's own encoder for MP4 and WebM. There is no upload step because there is no server to receive one.

Two tools download extra code

The AI background remover fetches its model from IMG.LY's CDN, and OCR fetches Tesseract and its language data from jsDelivr. That is code coming to you, not your file going out, and the browser caches it, so the second run starts straight away.

Your device sets the limits

With no server doing the heavy lifting, how large a file a tool can handle depends on your memory and processor. A laptop merges a long PDF comfortably; a phone may struggle with a long 4K video. Each tool page lists its own limits.

What is stored, and where

There are no accounts. Results you keep in My Files are saved in this browser's own storage and can be cleared from Settings. What reaches us is a message you send through the contact form, or a payment record if you choose to support the site.

Free, paid for by ads

No paid tiers and no watermarks. The site is paid for by advertising and optional support payments. Analytics and advertising scripts see page visits, as the privacy policy explains, but never the contents of your files.

Each page says what a tool cannot do

Every tool page explains which formats it reads, what a conversion drops, and when desktop software is the better choice. If a result looks wrong, the reason is usually there, and if it is not, the contact form reaches a person.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what people ask most before trying a tool.

Yes. Every tool on NextTool is free to use, with no paid tiers, watermarks or sign-up. The site is supported by advertising.

No. The tools run in your browser, so the files you open are processed on your own device and are not sent to us. Some tools download a library or an AI model the first time you use them; that is code coming to you, not your file going anywhere.

No account, no email and no sign-up required. Just open a tool and start using it immediately.

If History is on (the default), copies of your files and results are kept in this browser only, so you can download them again from the History page. You can turn History off or clear it at any time in Settings. With History off, files are discarded when you leave the page. Either way they stay on your device.

There is no limit set by us. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit is your browser's memory: very large videos or PDFs with thousands of pages may be slow on a phone or an older computer.

Upload-based services send your file to their server, process it there and send the result back. NextTool does the processing inside your browser tab instead, so there is no upload wait and your file is not handed to a third party.
