WebP images often carry a transparent background (cut-out product shots, stickers, logos) and PNG is the widely supported format that can keep that transparency intact. Converting to PNG gives you a lossless copy that opens in every image editor, presentation tool and design app, with the see-through areas still see-through. It is the right choice whenever you plan to edit the image further or place it over another background.
Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, so partially transparent edges (soft shadows, anti-aliased outlines) are kept exactly as they were in the WebP.
The WebP was lossy-compressed; the PNG stores every decoded pixel losslessly. For photographic content that is typically three to six times the size. For flat graphics the difference is smaller.
PNG if it has transparency or you will keep editing it. JPG if it is a photo you just need to open or share, since the file will be far smaller.
Only the first frame is converted, because a standard PNG holds a single image.
Yes. Many chat stickers are WebP with transparency, and converting to PNG makes them usable in editors and documents.

- ·Choose WebP to JPG instead when there is no transparency and file size matters
- ·PNG will not remove the WebP compression artefacts already in the image, it only stops new ones
- ·Resize down during conversion to offset the size increase of lossless storage
