When to use this
  • Generating a favicon.ico for a website from an existing logo PNG

  • Refreshing an outdated single-size favicon with a properly bundled multi-resolution one
  • Building a taskbar-ready icon from a square brand mark for a Windows app

Website favicons need to support several sizes in a single .ico file so browsers, bookmarks, and taskbars all display the right resolution, and this generator builds a proper multi-size ICO from any source image automatically. It is aimed at web developers and site owners who just have a logo PNG and need a standards-compliant favicon.ico. The packaging into the ICO container format happens entirely client-side.

A square image of at least 256x256 pixels gives the best results across all bundled icon sizes.

Browsers, bookmarks, and Windows taskbars each request different icon resolutions, so a multi-size ICO ensures a crisp icon everywhere instead of one blurry scaled version.

Square source images work best since non-square images will be resized or cropped to fit each icon size.

Yes, transparency is preserved in the generated ICO sizes.

How it works
  1. 1

    Upload a source image

Choose a square logo or image, ideally at least 256x256 pixels.

  2. 2

    Select sizes to include

Pick which icon sizes (such as 16x16, 32x32, 48x48) should be bundled into the ICO.

  3. 3

    Generate the ICO

Run the generation to pack the selected sizes into a single file.

  4. 4

    Download favicon.ico

Save the resulting multi-size ICO file for use on your site.

Pro tips
  • ·Start from a source image at least 256x256 pixels so smaller icon sizes can be downsampled cleanly instead of upscaled
  • ·Include the standard set of sizes (16x16, 32x32, 48x48) at minimum for the broadest browser and OS compatibility
  • ·Use a square, centered source image so nothing important gets cropped when it is resized to each icon dimension
