A text watermark marks a photo as yours before it is shared, so a copy that travels without you still carries your name. This tool writes your text, such as a copyright line, a studio name or the word SAMPLE, onto the image in bold white with a soft shadow so it stays readable on both light and dark areas. You set the size and opacity and choose a corner, the centre, or a tiled pattern across the whole picture.

Not in this tool; it places text only. For a logo, a text version of your brand name in a corner gives a similar result, or place the logo with an image editor that supports layers.

Tile. A small watermark in a corner can be cropped off in seconds, while a pattern repeated across the whole picture cannot be removed without visibly damaging the image.

Around 20 to 40 percent opacity deters reuse without spoiling the photo for the person you are showing it to. Client proofs can go higher, since the point is that they are not usable as final images.

Only where the text is drawn. The result is exported as a new image, so keep the unmarked original for your own use.

Pro tips
  • ·Use Tile for proofs and previews, and a corner mark for finished work you are happy to share.
  • ·Keep the original unmarked file; a watermark cannot be removed cleanly once it is part of the image.
